Calling all kids! It's time for the Chatham 4th of July Parade!
Over 20,000 spectators line Main Street for this annual tradition, be a part of the action by helping decorate the SHYC float with Senior Instructors from 6-8pm on July 3rd and by marching in the parade on July 4th. This year's parade theme is Chatham for the Holidays and SHYC will be celebrating New Year's Eve- children are encouraged to wear Sailing School shirts and/or anything looking New Year's Eve-y!
SHYC will be float #6 this year! A huge thank you to the Humber Family for opening their lawn to all SHYC marchers on the morning of the parade as a rendezvous point! Kids should get to the Humber's lawn at the intersection of Shore Rd and Main Streets by 8:30am. Children must be picked up at Veteran's Field at the end of the parade. For safety sake, please remember to check your child in and out with the instructor on duty!
Note that Shore Road will be closed at 07:30 except for parade floats. Barcliff Road will be closed for traffic towards Shore Road. Main Street to Shore Road will close at approximately 08:30.
Sailing School Advancement Qualifications Update
In their off-season curriculum work, Chris Beard, Kelsey Shakin and Drew Carlson have updated the Sailing School Advancement Qualifications. In addition to some minor curricular edits to the knots, terms, parts, knowledge and sailing performance components, there is a new section for the Hermit Crab class. While Hermits are not going to be required to “pass” tests, as required at the higher level classes, the new curriculum is designed to introduce the Hermit Crab group to various elements of the Sailing School and to acquaint them with the Advancement Qualifications process. Calling all Seamen! Join us for Lunch after morning class Mondays! Bring a bag lunch and a water bottle and hang out with friends on the deck and join in for cool activities! This week we made SLIME!
